When my group presented their project, the powerpoint presentation we had prepared did not work due to technical difficulties. It was regrettable and I considered stopping the presentation until the powerpoint could be fixed.
In the end I decided not to for these reasons:
The first is that the Powerpoint was a supplement. Similar to the pictures in our student newspaper. They make things look nicer but the writing is the important part.
Likewise, the experiments that the students designed and explained were the important part and I was very proud of how they presented.
The second is that the kids were very nervous about presenting. All but two were working without a script and the delay would have made them much more nervous.
I am proud of all the students in my group but I wanted to metnion Tariq, Khaled, Waleed, Karma, and Eyad especially.
Tariq because he almost lost his lines due to nerves but when he had to, remembered and finished strong.
Eyad because this was the first thing he has done with the higher level group. He struggled at times but presented well.
Khaled, Waleed, and Karma all made key contributions to the design of the experiments. Three of the four experiments were designed by the students with little prompting.
I was very proud of all the students and feel that our first try at a science fair went well and we have something we can build on for next year.
