The Odyssey Page 25

Odysseus was very happy to be back on Ithaca. His island was so beautiful. He was glad that his friend Athena was helping him. He went into the castle. He was still pretending to be a beggar.

He saw all the men who wanted to marry his wife. They were in his castle, drinking his water and eating his food. He saw his wife bringing them food. She looked so sad. She had to bring them food because they were guests.

He asked one of the men for some food. "Stupid beggar" said the man. He kicked Odysseus. Odysseus didn't move. The man looked at him strangely but then went back to eating.

Odysseus asked another man. That man was very rude. He slapped Odysseus' face. Odysseus started to get angry. He knew he couldn't fight the men. There were 50 of them and he was just one man.

He was angry at his wife. When Odysseus lived in the castle, no one was ever rude to beggars. Odysseus believed that you should help people weaker than you.

Suddenly there was a big fight.
